چکیده
Background. Acrylic resins used in restorative dentistry are the most popular denture base material, because they have good optical properties and small solubility in body fluids. However their mechanical properties are limited and therefore acrylic resins require different methods of reinforcement one of which can be application of different kinds of fibers. Objectives. To investigate the effect of various fibers on the flexural properties of hot curing acrylic resins after it was broken and reconnected with cold curing material reinforced with polyethylene and glass fibers.Material and Methods. Villacryl H Plus hot curing material after curing was broken and reinforced with various unidirectional fibers to improve its resistance. The fibers' surface was pretreated with methyl methacrylate solution. Control specimens did not contain reinforced fiber. Flexural properties of reinforced acrylic resins (AFRAR) were determined in dry condition after 24 hours at 23oC and after 28 days water immersion at 37oC. The test was performed by a three – point bending test using Instron type 4411 tensile testing machine.Results. Flexural resistance of fiber reinforced with acrylic resin (FRAR) increased after using fiber bundle in the sample. After 28 days of water immersion polyethylene fibers had better flexural properties compared to glass fibers. It could be connected with better polyethylene resistance in water conditions. Conclusions. Unidirectional polyethylene and glass fibers, are good application in restorative dentistry and the mechanical properties of hot curing acrylic resin increase after repairing process with cold curing resin.

Tensile strength and impact strength of color modified acrylic resin reinforced with titanium dioxide nanoparticles
BACKGROUND Poor mechanical properties are among the main limitations of acrylic resins. Addition of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles to acrylic resin has been shown to improve its mechanical properties with an adverse effect on its color. Thus, this study sought to assess the tensile and impact strength of a color modified heat cure acrylic resin reinforced with TiO2 nanoparticles. MATER...
متن کاملInvestigation of Mechanical Properties of Lithium-Based Geopolymer Composites Reinforced with Basalt Fibers
Recently, geopolymer binders have been considered because of low cost, simple processes for synthesis and many raw materials in nature. Geopolymer with brittle nature does not have high strength and cannot be used alone for structural materials. Therefore, to use in different structures, the composite which is reinforced with fibers such as carbon, glass, basalt, etchasbeen used. In this resear...
متن کاملMechanical Behavior of Self-Compacting Reinforced Concrete Including Synthetics and Steel Fibers
This paper investigated the effects of combining fibers with self-consolidating concrete (SCC). 12 series of test specimens were prepared using three kinds of fibers including steel, polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and glass fibers with four different volumes fractions and one specimen without fibers as a reference sample. All plans were subjected to fresh concrete tests. For mechanical behavior of...

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Despite the favorable properties of conventional PMMA used as a denture base material, its fracture resistance could be improved. PURPOSE This in vitro study was performed to determine whether the flexural strength of a commercially available, heat-polymerized acrylic denture base material could be improved through reinforcement with 3 types of fibers. MATERIAL AND METH...
متن کاملUltrasonic welding of thermoset matrix composites reinforced with glass fibers using a co-cured retaining layer
In this paper, ultrasonic welding of glass fiber reinforced thermoses, co-cured whit a thermoplastic has been studied. Co-curing process forms a connection between the thermoset and the thermoplastic while curing the composite. Considering that the calculated stress should not be related to the dimensions of the sample, a horn with a tip dimension smaller than the standard overlap was used. The...
